The Chinese Ministry of National Defense has strongly condemned the illegal intrusion of a Canadian CP-140 aircraft into the airspace of Chiwei Yu, an affiliated island of China's Diaoyu Islands.
Such provocative action has jeopardized China's national sovereignty and security, Wu Qian, a spokesperson for the ministry, told reporters on Wednesday.
Wu said the Chinese air force took necessary measures at the scene, which were legitimate and professional. The Canadian side has ignored facts and misled the international community following the incident, he added.
The Chinese side has lodged démarches with the Canadian side, Wu said, urging Canada to refrain from taking any provocative moves.
